Selective Service & Your Players

The Military Selective Service Act requires all men ages 18-25 who are U.S. citizens and those who have dual citizenship living abroad to register within 30 days of their eighteenth birthday. The benefits accompanied by registering with the Selective Service are paramount to a young man’s life.

The Selective Service is dedicated to raising registration awareness and has created an NFHS Leaders Toolkit intended to be utilized among athletic directors, coaches, and administrators. Each section will promote Selective Service registration and raise awareness of this requirement throughout the nation.

Who Needs to Register

Almost all male U.S. citizens and male immigrants, who are 18 through 25, are required to register with Selective Service. There are very few exceptions to this as Selective Service is responsible for availability and not acceptability.
